Rangers lured six new players to Ibrox in the summer, as well as completing a permanent deal for Declan John.
Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has claimed the Gers should consider someone of Youssouf Mulumbu’s quality in the summer, when talking to BBC Sportsound Extra’s Facebook Live channel.
The Gers completed six signings in January, landing Russell Martin, Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings on loan as well as signing Greg Docherty on a permanent basis and and youngster Glenn Middleton from Norwich City.
However, the Gers are notably lacking in central midfield due to the injuries suffered by Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack, and it has seen fans question whether signing Mulumbu could have been the answer.
The former Norwich City and West Brom ace was overlooked by the Gers, and has since starred for Steve Clarke’s Kilmarnock side – scoring the winner against Celtic on Saturday in Killie’s 1-0 win.
Responding to a Rangers fan on Monday, Thompson suggested that Rangers would benefit from signing Mulumbu – and even reckons Celtic could do with the 31-year-old.
Thompson was asked: “Should Rangers sign Mulumbu in the summer, he’s out of contract?”
He replied: “I think he’s turning out to be an unbelievable star. A great asset to the Scottish Premiership. There’s no doubt Rangers could use a player of his quality – I think Celtic could use a player of his quality. He’s turning out to be a real star.”
Mulumbu joined Killie back in November as he was a free agent following his release from Norwich, but Clarke opted to hand the 38-time DR Congo international a chance to shine in Scotland.
He seems to be taking that chance with aplomb, but as Mulumbu’s contract ends in the summer, Rangers could come calling in order to add the box-to-box ace to their squad prior to the 2018-19 season.
