Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has not held back in his criticism of manager Pedro Caixinha after the Gers were knocked out of the Betfred Cup by Motherwell on Sunday afternoon.
The Gers suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss to Steve Robinson’s side at Hampden Park, with The Well booking their place in the final against Celtic thanks to a brace from Louis Moult.
Things went from bad to worse for Portuguese manager Caixinha, who was sent to the stands along with his counterpart Stephen Robinson, where chairman Dave King was in attendance.

Speaking to BBC Sportscene, Thompson blasted Caixinha after a dismal start to the 2017-18 campaign that has already seen the Gers knocked out of the Europa League and trailing way behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.
“I honestly can’t see how he (Caixinha) can continue in the job,” Thompson said. “Dumped out of Europe at the start of the season, that was an embarrassment.
“Are they any closer to Aberdeen? Not really in my opinion. Now out of the Cup at the semi-final stage, throw in the Kenny Miller stuff, the Old Firm defeat; it doesn’t matter how you spin it, it’s just not good enough for Rangers Football Club.”

Caixinha has already angered many by leaving veteran striker Miller out of the squad for the Gers last three matches, following a rift after the Old Firm loss to Celtic last month.
Now, the 54-time Scottish champions must re-focus their attention on the Scottish Premiership, as they prepare to face Kilmarnock on Wednesday evening at Ibrox.
