Thomas Tuchel was frustrated by Chelsea not being able to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City before the striker eventually went to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

Thomas Tuchel wanted Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus at Chelsea

The Athletic have reported that some at Chelsea wanted to sign Jesus from Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Initially Tuchel, who was sacked as the Chelsea boss this week, said that he did not want to sign a number 9.

The German coach eventually made a U-turn over his stance on Jesus, but he then ‘felt frustrated’ that the Chelsea owners ‘did not pursue the deal’, according to the report.

The report has added that Jesus – described as “physical in the way that he plays” by former Liverpool star Stephen Warnock on The Football Show on Sky Sports this week – was very keen to move to the Blues.

Flourishing at the Gunners

Gabriel Jesus is flourishing at Arsenal at the moment and has established himself as one of the most important players in manager Mikel Arteta’s team.

The 25-year-old Brazil international striker has scored three goals and given three assists in six Premier League appearances so far this season.

The striker has also played 12 minutes in the UEFA Europa League.
