Christian Eriksen has been linked with a move away from Tottenham for some time.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has told Omnisport that he believes Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen should leave north London this summer.
The 26-year-old has continually been linked with a number of moves to Europe’s biggest clubs, as he continues to shine in Mauricio Pochettino’s side. The Denmark international was once again named in the PFA Team of the Year.
Eriksen arguably enjoyed his best season in a Spurs shirt, scoring 14 goals and laying on another 13 assists in 47 league and cup outings for the club, as Spurs qualified for the Champions League again despite playing at Wembley.
Sorensen, who played alongside Eriksen for the Denmark national team before retiring in 2012, reckons if the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid come calling, he should leave.
“I know he’s got great feelings for Tottenham,” Sorensen said. “He’s been there and he’s a loyal guy. So for him to leave Tottenham it would really need to be something special.
“If Barcelona, Real Madrid, those kind of clubs came calling he would definitely need to consider it. He would definitely fit in there, I think he’s mature enough now to go to a big club like that.
“The expectations are there, other great players. I think he’s at the right time where he is ready for that, so if the opportunity comes I think he should go.”
Eriksen does not have a huge amount of time remaining on his current contract compared to some Spurs teammates, with two years still to run on the four-year deal he signed in 2016.
Sky Sports claim the deal is worth £70,000 a week, something which is considered pocket money at the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid. A huge pay rise could indeed tempt Eriksen to move.
The Dane is next in action at this summer’s World Cup, as he looks to push Denmark into the knockout rounds from Group C. They face Australia, France and Peru in Russia.
