Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has told the club’s official website that he loved how ‘crazy’ the Gunners fans were over him.

The Gunners finally signed Partey on deadline day last week, bring an end to a long-term pursuit of the Ghanaian.

It looked like Arsenal would leave the summer window without a new midfielder, but they pulled off a last-gasp swoop for Partey.

The 27-year-old is a proven star having been a key part of Diego Simeone’s side with Atletico Madrid, and provides real quality in midfield.

He can break up play and protect his back four, but also has a fine passing range, and should be exactly what Arsenal are seeking.

On Tuesday, Partey reflected on his big-money move, and admitted that he was excited after seeing how fans were reacting to the rumours of his potential arrival.

Partey noted that the Arsenal fans were ‘crazy’ for him, and loved receiving messages suggesting that supporters wouldn’t sleep if he didn’t sign.

Partey – who met Arsenal legend Ian Wright yesterday having named him as one of his favourite Arsenal players in history – added that it was a ‘great feeling’ to be wanted so much by the Arsenal fans, who were passionately demanding his arrival.

“I was so happy, I was excited,” said Partey. “I was not even here yet and [the fans] were crazy over me, they wanted me to join the club. I received a lot of messages saying, ‘Join the club or we are not sleeping!’ – it was a great feeling,” he added.
