Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has wished Philippe Coutinho ‘all the best’ on Instagram after his loan move to Aston Villa was made official on Tuesday.

Aston Villa unveiled their loan signing from Barcelona last night and he was seen donning the number 23 shirt.

A number of current players sent positive thoughts to the Brazil international, including Antoine Griezmann saying he is ‘all smiles’.

Only a number of seasons ago, Coutinho was winning the European Cup in Bayern colours, alongside Muller.

His footballing path has taken a different direction now, but he will be hoping to guide this ambitious and ever-improving Villa side back with the elite.

Villa have gone through possibly the worst ten-year period of their history, but under the stewardship of Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris, the club is making strides.

The one-time European champions have improved every season they have been at the club and they will be looking to do the same this season.

The aim is Europe and winning trophies again, the former probably won’t happen this term, but it is the long-term goal.

Adding a player of Coutinho’s ilk to the ranks certainly drives Villa towards that goal and it’s going to be very interesting to see where his footballing talents are at.

There is no doubt that, on his day, the ‘magician’ can cause havoc against any team, but he has gone through a few bumpy roads of late and his career needs picking up.

If Coutinho does it under the stewardship of Steven Gerrard in B6, then it will be a win-win situation for all, including someone like Barcelona.
