The Belgian had an offer to join West Ham United last summer.

Last summer, Belgium right-back Thomas Meunier told Voetbal Nieuws he was considering offers from four clubs including West Ham United.
Ultimately, and unsurprisingly, the then-Club Brugge star opted for Paris Saint-Germain – a decision that looks smarter by the week – but Hammers fans would be forgiven for thinking what might have been after Meunier played a vital role in the French side’s demolition of Barcelona in the Champions League.
While Angel Di Maria stole the show with a brace against the Catalan giants, Meunier was not far behind as he supported the Argentine down the right flank time and again and finished the match with his head held high and plenty of new fans to boot.
The 25-year-old would have been the perfect solution to a problem position at West Ham, with Alvaro Arbeloa’s surprise move falling flat and Sam Byram continuing to look like a fish out of water.
In contrast, Meunier is how a bona fide star at Europe’s top table, and one wonders what might have happened if West Ham had made their move quicker or somehow managed to convince the Belgian that London was his best next destination.
