Tottenham Hotspur ace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s Euro 2020 dream ended last night, but he has been hailed by Brentford boss Thomas Frank.
Hojbjerg featured for Denmark at Euro 2020 on Wednesday night, playing against England in a semi-final clash at Wembley Stadium.
Sadly for Hojbjerg and his Danish teammates, England came through with a 2-1 victory and now meet Italy in the final on Sunday.
It’s been an unbelievable journey for Denmark, who had to overcome major adversity following Christian Eriksen’s collapse against Finland, and having a leader like Hojbjerg will have helped.
The midfielder was a great presence for Denmark alongside Kasper Schmeichel and Simon Kjaer, with Tottenham no doubt proud of him.
A £15million signing from Southampton last summer, Hojbjerg was a key man for Tottenham last season and will surely be a vital player for new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
Now, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has told The Telegraph that he said to Hojbjerg many years ago that he could become world class, having coached him for the Danish Under-17’s.

Frank raved about Hojbjerg’s technical ability and passing range, adding that he could now become one of the top holding midfielders in the Premier League – a tag many Tottenham fans would already give him.
“I coached Hojbjerg for three years in the Danish youth teams,” said Frank. “I said to him, when he was in the under-17 national team, that he could be a world-class holding midfielder. Back then he was more of an advanced midfielder, often playing as a No 10.”
“On the ball his technical ability is extremely strong: he has a great first touch and a wide passing range. He is a very good passer, and he protects the ball well. He also has physicality and pace. He has the potential to be one of the best sitting midfielders in the Premier League,” he added.
