Thomas Frank has responded to reports linking the Brentford manager to the vacant Aston Villa job – after the sacking of Steven Gerrard. The Danish boss said he is not surprised, but that he is “very happy” at the London club right now.

Gerrard watched on in despair as his Villa side went down to 10 men and lost 3-0 at Fulham. A woeful display, lacking any kind of invention or plan B. It was Villa’s sixth defeat in 11 Premier League matches. He was axed after the game.

TalkSPORT reported on Thursday evening that Frank was a target for Villa. Little surprise, after such a good spell as Brentford manager. Since taking over the Bees, he has won his side promotion – winning 92 of 203 games in charge.

But asked if he could end up replacing Gerrard at Villa Park, Frank explained how he is not surprised at the rumours. He even joked that he is a “good manager” before stating that he is more than happy at Brentford as things stand.

“I understand the bookmakers, I’m a good manager. Joking aside, very happy here. I’ve said that many times. I have unfinished business to do here. I think it’s important to worship the good you have,” Frank said, as per The Athletic.

Frank has responded to reports linking manager to Villa job

Frank would be a wonderful appointment for Villa. A manager that has proven in the Premier League he has what it takes to improve players to this level, and get the best out of him. An attractive style of football, too.

But he is doing a wonderful job at Brentford. He has the quality for Villa, and the size of the club will be a temptation. The cash on offer to spend on players, too. But ultimately, why would he want to leave Brentford at this stage?
