Rangers have been loosely linked with bringing Lewis Macleod back to Ibrox.
Brentford midfielder Lewis Macleod has returned strongly this season, but his injury woes may be about to strike him down again.
The 24-year-old was an exciting signing from Rangers in 2015, having hit 16 goals in 74 games for his boyhood club in Scotland.
However, injuries have plagued Macleod during his time in West London, and he had made just 25 appearances for the club before the start of this season.
The Scot did appear to be getting back to his best in terms of form and fitness earlier this term though, featuring prominently under Dean Smith whilst showing just why he was so highly rated at Rangers.
Macleod has though turned down a new contract to stay at Griffin Park according to The Scottish Sun, with aded claims that Rangers are keen to bring him back to Ibrox.
That could be appealing to Macleod, especially as he will be able to move on for free in 2019, but there may be a new injury problem for the midfielder, who scored against West Bromwich Albion last week.
Bees boss Thomas Frank has told West London Sport that he doesn’t know when Macleod will be able to return from a hamstring injury, which kept him out of Saturday’s defeat to Swansea City.
That may just alter Rangers’ plans, if they did indeed want to sign Macleod. They need quality midfielders they can really rely on, and another injury blow for their former star may just leave them to look elsewhere.
Of course, he could return quickly and be back playing again soon, but with so many injuries in recent years, it may be a gamble for Rangers to take him back to Ibrox.
