Leeds United probably need a striker, but Thomas Christiansen suggests one won’t be arriving.
Thomas Christiansen has suggested to LUTV that Leeds United won’t be signing a striker in the January transfer window.
The Whites’ firepower has been questioned in recent weeks, with Christiansen’s side scoring eight goals from their last seven Championship games.
It’s not a bad return, but it’s not a great one either and there is the sense that Kemar Roofe – who missed a great chance in Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest last week – and Pierre-Michel Lasogga might not be prolific enough to fire United into the playoffs come May.
The Leeds boss also has much-maligned Jay-Roy Grot and the injured Caleb Ekuban as striking options, and the 44-year-old suggests that the Elland Road side will not be signing a forward this month.
He told LUTV: “We have enough strikers up front. We have Jay, we have Pierre, we have Roofie, we have Ekuban when he comes back from the injury. There’s four strikers there.”
Leeds fans have been crying out for a tried-and-tested hitman, and rightly so. Roofe and Lasogga have their uses, no doubt, but if United – who have a one-point cushion in the playoff spots – fail to finish in the top six this season then it’ll be asked whether Director of Football Victor Orta should have added a stronger option.
