Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen admitted that he has to win back the confidence of his players.

Leeds travel to Bristol City tomorrow as United hope to end a three-match losing streak and get their season back on track.

Not too long ago Christiansen’s side were leading the way in the division and looking like a very strong contender for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

But the Elland Road club are sixth in the table ahead of their trip to Ashton Gate and more dropped points against the Robins could see them fall out of the top six.

Nevertheless, Christiansen was keen to stress that the group of players who blew away the Championship early in the campaign have the same capacity to do so again.

“The players have to realise the things we need to improve if we want to stay up at this level and compete,” he said as quoted by The Yorkshire Evening Post.

“And of course I need to win back the confidence of the players. It is still the same players we have now that were able to be top of the table. It hasn’t changed too much.”

Christiansen’s comments about winning back the confidence of his players is slightly worrying, however.

Such an admission would suggest that Leeds’ sticky patch has seen the players lose faith in his abilities to some extent and that is the last thing that United need.

But victory against the in-form Robins would surely put paid to such suggestions that he has lost the faith of his personnel.
