Leeds United should start Pierre-Michel Lasogga on Sunday.

Leeds United visit Newport County in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
Considering the Welsh side are mid table in League Two, United boss Thomas Christiansen might be tempted to name a number of fringe players among his first XI.
But one senior player who Christiansen can’t rest is Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

The on-loan Hamburg striker is suffering with a crisis of confidence at the moment and hasn’t scored since returning from a month-long absence through injury in early December.
But a run-out against lowly Newport could see him rediscover his goalscoring touch and with it the confidence to start scoring Championship goals again.

It’s vitally important that Lasogga and/or Kemar Roofe have successful second halves to the season regarding goals if the Elland Road club fail to sign a striker this month.
In that scenario, their promotion bid is going to hinge on whether the two strikers do the business in the final third, and starting Lasogga – without a goal in his last five league outings, since October – is the smart move by Christiansen if he wants his striker back.
