Leicester City beat Leeds United 3-1 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen has told BBC Radio Leeds that he managed to grab Jamie Vardy’s shirt after Tuesday’s clash with Leicester City – as a present for his son.
The Whites picked up a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday afternoon, having lost four of their previous five Championship games.
Christiansen then took his side to take on Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, in the hope of dumping out another Premier League side having beaten Burnley in the previous round.
Those hopes were boosted in the first half when Pablo Hernandez hit an impressive opening goal from long range, but Leicester hit right back through Kelechi Iheanacho.
Islam Slimani put Leicester in front in the second half, before a late Riyad Mahrez strike sealed a 3-1 win for the Foxes, eliminating Leeds in the process.
Christiansen will be able to take the positives out of the game ahead of Friday’s clash with Sheffield United, whilst he even managed to leave the King Power Stadium with an extra gift.
Christiansen left with Jamie Vardy’s shirt, and when asked by BBC Radio Leeds why he managed to get hold of the England star’s shirt, he revealed that it is actually for his son, and joked that he wouldn’t have been allowed home without getting Vardy’s shirt.
“Yes, that was a request from my son – if not, I would not be allowed to come home!” said Christiansen.
Vardy may have suffered an up-and-down campaign last season, but he is still hugely popular after his exploits in Leicester’s title-winning campaign, as shown by Christiansen’s son demanding his shirt.
