Speaking to Radio Yorkshire, Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen has revealed that his message to his players at half time on Saturday was to put Burton Albion to the sword.

Leeds moved second in the Championship with a 5-0 demolition of Nigel Clough’s side for what was their first win at Elland Road this season in the league.

Pierre-Michel Lassoga, on his debut, opened the scoring, before Kalvin Phillips and a Pablo Hernandez penalty secured an unassailable 3-0 lead over the visitors at the break.

Further efforts from Roofe and Lasogga followed in the 15-minute period after the break, and Christiansen claims that he told his boys not to take their foot off the pedal during half time.

He told Radio Yorkshire: “Well my message for the players at half time was to continue the work they did in the first half.

“I also told them I didn’t know the last time Leeds were leading 3-0 at half time. It was a moment to enjoy and go for more goals.”

It was a stunning performance from the Whites and they remain unbeaten in the Championship, winning four and drawing two of their first six games.

On this form, Leeds fans are rightly excited by their team’s potential this season. Owner Andrea Radrizzani claimed in July that a top-six finish was the minimum requirement from Christiansen, and the former Spain international looks well on course to fulfill that expectation thus far, though it’s still early.
