Leeds United forward Chris Wood is reportedly wanted by Brighton & Hove Albion.

Thomas Christiansen has told Radio Yorkshire that he is confident of keeping Chris Wood at Leeds United, but he can offer no guarantees.

Wood was Leeds’ leading marksmen last season, as he notched 30 goals in the Championship.

The target man’s good form has not gone unnoticed though, with Brighton & Hove Albion the latest side to be linked with the New Zealand international in The Sun.

Chris Wood of Leeds celebrates scoring the opening goal during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road on January 13, 2017 in Leeds, England.

Leeds are understood to be determined to keep hold of Wood, but Christiansen admitted that he couldn’t be 100% certain his leading striker would stay.

“Very important, but you never know what will happen,” the new Leeds boss said. “Yes [I’m confident that he’ll stay with Leeds].”

Leeds got their campaign off to a winning start, when they beat Bolton Wanderers 3-2 yesterday.

Wood got on the score sheet during the contest, with Kalvin Phillips also bagging a brace.

If Leeds did lose Wood it would be a major blow to their promotion hopes, with optimism currently very high around Elland Road.

Christiansen’s men are next in action on Wednesday, when they take on Port Vale in the League Cup.
