Liam Cooper missed Leeds United’s match against Millwall, but the defender could be back against Ipswich Town next weekend.

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has suggested to The Yorkshire Evening Post that Liam Cooper will be back for next weekend’s game against Ipswich Town.

Cooper did not feature in Leeds’s Championship match against Millwall away from home at The Den at the weekend.

The 26-year-old central defender missed the game on Saturday afternoon due to a back injury.

In the absence of the former Scotland Under-19 international, who can also operate as a left-back, the West Yorkshire outfit lost 1-0.

Leeds head coach Christiansen expects Cooper to be back for next weekend’s Championship match against Ipswich at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire Evening Post quotes Christiansen as saying that “for Saturday (Cooper) will be okay”, and that Everton-owned defender Matthew Pennington is “very close” to a comeback.

Cooper has established himself as an important player for Leeds and has formed a strong partnership with Pontus Jansson at the back.

The defender was a miss against Millwall, but if he is back for the match against Ipswich, then it will certainly enhance the Whites’ chances of picking up all three points against the Tractor Boys.
