Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has told Radio Yorkshire that Vurnon Anita will be available for the match against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Anita did not complete the entire 90 minutes of Leeds’s EFL Cup tie against Newport County at Elland Road on Tuesday evening.

The 28-year-old Dutchman, who can operate as a full-back or as a defensive midfielder, started the second-round tie against Newport, but he was taken off on the hour mark.

Leeds head coach Christiansen, though, does not seem to be worried about the former Newcastle United man, stating that he will be available for the Championship game against Forest away from home at the City Ground on Saturday evening.

Christiansen, though, has admitted that he is still waiting to hear about 22-year-old striker Caleb Ekuban, who suffered an injury in the Whites’ 2-0 victory over Sunderland away from home at the Stadium of Light last weekend.

The Leeds head coach has also stated that he is waiting to hear about the status of 32-year-old attacking midfielder Pablo Hernandez, who suffered an injury in the first half of the match against the Black Cats.

“He is okay,” Christiansen told Radio Yorkshire when asked about Anita’s injury.

“If he is needed, yes,” said the Leeds head coach when asked if he will be fit for Saturday’s game against Forest if he is needed.

“No, we are still waiting,” said Christiansen when asked about an update on Ekuban. “Also on Pablo. We need to have confirmation, but they will be good.”
