Thomas Christiansen has confirmed to the Yorkshire Evening Post that Leeds United striker Calub Ekuban has returned to training this week.

Ekuban has been out for much of the season so far with injury, but is close to making his comeback.

And, although Leeds game against Brentford this weekend will come too soon for the rapid forward, he should be back in contention sooner than than later.

Christiansen said: “He has been training a few days but won’t play this weekend.”

Ekuban’s return to the Leeds fold will increase Christiansen’s attacking options, and that can only be a good thing given the Whites’ poor form in recent weeks.

Leeds have lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions, and have now slipped outside the play off places in the Championship table.

Leeds face a tough fixture against Brentford this weekend, and they will play at Griffin Park without a fully fit squad, as Christiansen has also confirmed that Cameron Borthwick-Jackson will be sidelined.

“He’s still out with an ankle injury,” the Danish boss added.

If Leeds can win against Brentford it will renew some optimism around Elland Road, after a poor spell of results.

Beating Dean Smith’s side could be a tough task, as the Bees go into the match unbeaten in their last eight league outings.
