Leeds United ended a turbulent run of games by picking up an impressive win in the Championship on Saturday, beating Barnsley.

The Whites put their disappointing midweek defeat to Wolves behind them as goals from Samuel Saiz and Gjanni Alioski saw Christiansen’s men secure a 2-0 win in a game that they largely dominated.

The game saw a couple of notable selection decisions, with Wiedwald returning in goal after he was dropped earlier in the season, and Ekuban starting for the first time since his return from injury. And Christiansen suggested that he was happy with what he saw from both players in their victory over the Tykes.
“With Caleb, he proved in the last two games when he came in that he’d die for the team, he makes the pressure, he keeps the ball, he fights for everything and that was important for the team today.”

While Wiedwald did not have too much to do, the fact that he did everything that was asked with little fuss and little problem will surely hand him a massive confidence boost after a difficult start to life at Elland Road.
As for Ekuban, although he did not get on the scoresheet, his performance was incredibly encouraging and was arguably a key reason why Leeds were able to look so dangerous going forward and ultimately score the two goals that allowed them to bag the three points. And both men arguably did a great job of proving to Christiansen that his decision to select them was the right one.
