Wiedwald made a mistake against Queens Park Rangers earlier this month, but it did not prevent Leeds from winning the Championship game 3-1 away from home at Loftus Road in London.
The German goalkeeper, who joined the Whites in the summer transfer window, retained his place in the starting lineup against Norwich at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
Leeds head coach Christiansen was impressed with the performance of the 27-year-old against Norwich at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, as the home team won 1-0.
“Well, Felix has improved a lot,” Christiansen told Leeds Live when asked about Wiedwald’s performance. “And he also showed his character because after the QPR, the mistake he made, he saved the team.
“And today he went out, he made very good saves and another clean sheet on his account so he may be one of the best goalkeepers in this league referring to the clean sheets.”
Christiansen has also explained his decision to bring on central defender Matthew Pennington on 85 minutes in place of attacker Pawel Cibicki and told BBC Radio Leeds: “Well, to defend the result. When you have won the game inside 80 minutes, you cannot win more points than three.”
Wiedwald is a good goalkeeper who has made mistakes at times this season, and it is great of head coach Christiansen to keep faith in him.
The Leeds boss needs to show the German that he has faith in him, and that he backs him to recover from poor performances.
The West Yorkshire outfit are very much in the race for a place in the top six of the Championship this season.
