Thomas Christiansen has told BBC Radio Leeds that Cameron Borthwick-Jackson improved significantly from his previous Leeds appearance during the Whites’ Carabao Cup tie with Leicester City on Tuesday night, and explained that the defender had to be taken off at half-time due to an ankle problem.

Borthwick-Jackson had seemed to become Leeds’ forgotten man since enduring a fairly miserable night at Turf Moor, not featuring in any of the matchday squads in the Championship games that followed.

But he got his chance against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium, and arguably performed extremely well while he was on the pitch, helping Leeds go into the break level with the Premier League side at 1-1.

And Christiansen was also full of praise for the Manchester United-owned youngster, before outlining why he had to be replaced at the interval.

“He was playing a good game, of course,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“At half-time, we changed him because he had a problem in the ankle, but his performance was much better than at Burnley, and I said to him that he had to be more focused and more aggressive in all these situations and he reacted well on that.”

Borthwick-Jackson will desperately be hoping that the injury is not a serious one, as, for the first time since his Championship debut perhaps, he showed glimpses of being a player capable of making that left-back spot his own this season, especially now that Gaetano Berardi is missing for the next two games due to suspension.

And while Leeds are now reflecting on a defeat that ends their cup run, the defender’s performance is one of a handful of reasons why Christiansen can surely reflect extremely positively on his side’s spirited display.
