Leeds United endured a frustrating evening as they drew in their latest Championship clash.

Thomas Christiansen has told BBC Radio Leeds that he was pleased with Leeds securing a point from their clash with Hull City on Tuesday and heaped praise upon Felix Wiedwald after his display at the KCOM Stadium.

Leeds went into their game with the Tigers having lost four of their previous five games in all competitions, but would have been hoping to get back on track in the Championship as they prepared to face a team that they beat last month and one that went into the game just outside the bottom three.

However, it could be argued that it was the home side that looked more like the team that was on the periphery of the play-off picture as they created by far the better chances throughout the game, testing Felix Wiedwald on a number of occasions.

Luckily for Leeds, Wiedwald – who had been enduring a miserable time between the sticks before the last couple of months – stepped up to the challenge. And after the game, Christiansen suggested that he was happy with a point, while he also praised his goalkeeper’s performance.

“Of course. I always come for the three points. But how the game went [against] a team that took a good result against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup and they have the last chances also to try and survive in this difficult position that they are. Of course, we have the same situation but trying to mix up with the top six,” he told BBC Radio Leeds when asked if he was happy with a point.

“Finally, one point is a good result I believe when you see the last minutes. But we also had some approach in the second-half, a good shot from Pierre, but where we should have done more and be more dangerous were in the set-pieces because we had a lot of fouls that we could have used better.”

“Unfortunately, we speak about him because of the saves. I would have preferred not to speak about him. That means he didn’t have any work to do. But, of course, for his confidence. to have a clean sheet, it’s good,” he added when asked about Wiedwald.

It may be hugely disappointing for Leeds fans to hear Christiansen suggest that he was content with a point when it was really a game, on paper, that the Whites should have been looking to win. But they will also be taking a tremendous amount of heart from Wiedwald’s display as it provides the latest hint that he has turned a corner after a difficult start.
