Leeds United signed up talented centre-back Conor Shaughnessy on a new deal this week.

Speaking to LUTV, Thomas Christiansen has praised Conor Shaughnessy after signing a new Leeds United deal this week.
The 21-year-old defender was rewarded for an excellent transition to life in the senior set-up by signing a new contract which ties him to Elland Road until 2021.
That decision came from Director of Football Victor Orta, on the back of a superb performance in the Whites’ League Cup win at Premier League side Burnley.

Orta opted against signing another centre-back in the summer by virtue of the Irishman’s promise, and Christiansen is delighted to have him signed up for the long term.
He told LUTV: “I believe in the abilities in Conor. He has shown that since the day he came into the first team, and this is why Victor Orta got that agreement with him.
“The club believes in the academy and this is a good signing for the club. I believe Conor can mark the future of this club.”

Shaughnessy is an excellent talent but he is unlikely to start Saturday’s visit of Ipswich Town.
Pontus Jansson, who came off injured in the 1-0 defeat at Millwall, and Liam Cooper, who missed out completely last week, are both expected to be back in the squad.
Leeds haven’t conceded a Championship goal this season when both have been on the pitch together so, if fit, Christiansen is likely to revert to that tried-and-tested pairing.
