Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has suggested to Leeds Live that Aapo Halme will not feature for the first team against Newport County this weekend.

The Whites will take on County away from home at Rodney Parade in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The West Yorkshire outfit recently completed the signing of Halme from HJK Helsinki in the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old central defender has arrived at Elland Road with a strong reputation, having established himself as an important player at HJK.

Leeds head coach Christiansen has suggested that Halme will not play against Newport this weekend and has also outlined his plan to use him for the Under-23 side.

“It’s too soon,” Christiansen told Leeds Live when asked if Halme will be involved against County.

“But the main idea is to have him in the U23s but of course we try to make a strong U23s so we can take players if we need them for the first team.”

Halme is very young and quite raw, and it would make sense for the young defender to play for the Leeds Under-23 side for a while.

Leeds are looking good defensively at the moment and are very much in the race for the Championship playoffs this season.
