Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has improved in recent weeks, and now looks back to his best.

Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen has told Leeds Live that Pontus Jansson was shirking responsibility in the early stages of the season.

Jansson struggled for form over the early months of the campaign, and the Swede was even dropped for a stage of the season.

However, Jansson appears to be back to his best now, and Christiansen feels that some conversations with the centre-back have helped him improve.

“Everyone has to take one step up, especially him,” Christiansen said.

“I didn’t see him taking the responsibilities he had to but I have had several talks with him individually.

“He felt the same and understood it.

“Also the club believe in him, they showed it with the extension of the contract.

“He had to reply on that and now we have the Pontus we need.”

Jansson has become a cult figure at Leeds, though his passionate performances, and his good form has helped Christiansen’s side improve in recent weeks.

The Whites have won four of their last six matches, to climb up to the outskirts of the play offs.

Leeds are now in seventh place in the Championship table, and could even break into the top six, if they are able to win at the weekend.

Leeds are next in action tomorrow, when they take on Nigel Adkins’ Hull City side at Elland Road.
