Leeds United should give Andy Lonergan a chance in goal in their next match after the international break.
Leeds United goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald’s shaky showing against Sheffield Wednesday should convince Thomas Christiansen that now is the time to take him out of the starting line-up.
Leeds lost 3-0 to Wednesday at Hillsborough, and Wiedwald’s display was particularly concerning.
The German goalkeeper did not deal with the threat Wednesday posed from out wide at all, and he looked very uncertain under the aerial ball.
With Leeds already showing a soft-core on their travels, the Whites can ill-afford to have a goalkeeper who does not appear commanding when presented with a physical challenge.
It is now time that Wiedwald dropped out of Leeds team, and was replaced by Andy Lonergan.
Leeds may have invested £500,000 in bringing Wiedwald to Elland Road last summer, according to The Sun, but he is yet to convince that he has what it takes to keep goal in England.
And, with Leeds’ form dipping recently, Christiansen should give the more experienced Lonergan a chance in goal, in the hope that the former Preston man’s inclusion will give his defence more confidence.
