The Leeds United midfielder has been linked with a summer exit but they cannot afford to lose him and surely won’t.
According to the Mirror’s live transfer blog (17/06/17 at 10:50pm) a number of Premier League clubs have asked about Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, and as a consequence the Whites are said to have put a £10million price tag on his head.
The simple fact is, with a recently signed four-year contract at Elland Road, and given his impact last season, Leeds are unlikely to cash in on the talented teenager unless a truly incredible offer arrives in their inbox.
However, even then new Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen and owner Andrea Radrizzani should reject any and all attempts to sign the 18-year-old.
Vieira is fast-becoming Premier League quality, and it is for that very reason that Leeds need to keep him on their books and build their side around him.
He is only going to get better in the years ahead and if Leeds have genuine aspirations to return to the top flight they cannot cash in on arguably their best player.
He may not be experienced as the likes of Chris Wood and Pontus Jansson, but Vieira is the real deal and it is time Leeds kept one of their academy jewels rather than making a quick buck.
Sometimes that is easier said than done, but it is a new era at Elland Road and Radrizzani can define his own legacy.
As can Christiansen, whose appointment has received a mixed response but who has a clean slate to build on Garry Monk’s good work last time out.
Vieira is worth a lot more than £10million already, and in time he could be the difference between playing Championship and Premier League football.
While Christiansen will be judged – at least initially – on the players he signs, he will also be defined by those he keeps, and Vieira is too precious to lose, regardless of how much his departure could ultimately swell the coffers.
