Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that Eunan O’Kane is fit to play this weekend.

The West Yorkshire outfit will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Burton Albion at home in the Championship.

The Whites will head into the match against Burton as favourites and should be able to pick up all three points with relative ease.

Ahead of the match, Leeds head coach Christiansen has positive news for the fans in regard to O’Kane.

The 27-year-old midfielder pulled out of international duty with the Republic of Ireland national football team due to a groin problem.

The former Bournemouth star has established himself as an important player for Leeds this season, and head coach Christiansen has said that he is fit to play against Burton.

Christiansen has also given an update on the fitness of full-back Gaetano Berardi and central defender Matthew Pennington, who joined the Whites on a season-long loan deal from Everton in the summer transfer window.

Berardi dislocated his shoulder and Pennington suffered an ankle injury during Leeds’s opening Championship game of the season against Bolton Wanderers.

“He is 100 per cent ready for the game tomorrow,” Christiansen told The Yorkshire Evening Post about O’Kane.

“He went with the national team but it was in that moment that he had some small problems and we took the decision that it would be best for him to come back and to prepare himself for this month that we will face now.”

“He came back, this is his first week with the team and there was no problem with him,” said Christiansen about Berardi. “But he needs of course a little bit more time with the team.”

“He is very close,” said Christiansen about Pennington. “He has been out on the pitch in this last week so he will soon be in. But not for the weekend.”
