Leeds United may require changes in the final third.

Leeds United’s fourth defeat in their last five Championship games means that manager Thomas Christiansen may have to re-think his line-up – and one dilemma sticks out.

The Whites lost 1-0 at home to Reading on Saturday afternoon, with ex-Leeds loanee Modou Barrow scoring the winning goal in another disappointing game for Christiansen’s side.

With defeats to Millwall, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday as well, Leeds have picked up just three points in the last five games, and Christiansen may consider changes for this weekend’s game against Bristol City.

One of the problems Leeds have faced recently is that playing both Pablo Hernandez and Samu Saiz are struggling to play in the same side, with the Spaniards almost on top of each other in attacking midfield.

Now may be the time for Christiansen to drop Hernandez and go with Saiz as his chief playmaker, but that will open up a spot on the left – and fortunately for the Leeds boss, he has a number of choices to pick from.

Leeds fans feel that there is a lack of graft from Hernandez, which could lend itself to Stuart Dallas coming back in on the left hand side. The Northern Ireland international hasn’t started a single game under Christiansen this season, but his hard working nature and his end product may just give him a chance to play on the left.

If Christiansen wants pace and attacking threat either side of the creative Saiz, then he can call upon Kemar Roofe and summer signing Ezgjan Alioski, who have both shown potential of linking up well with Saiz already this season.

The wild card may be Hadi Sacko, who has barely featured under Christiansen but does provide blistering pace. His end product counts against him when compared against Alioski, Dallas and Roofe, but he is yet another option that Christiansen can consider.

Dropping a player of Hernandez’s quality won’t be easy for Christiansen, but with so many other options who may offer better balance to the Leeds side, it may be a change that Christiansen has to make.
