Leeds United picked up a third red card in 2018 on Saturday.
Thomas Christiansen has suggested to LUTV that Leeds United’s disciplinary problem must improve if they are to win promotion to the Premier League this season.
Leeds lost a seven-goal thriller on Saturday as Millwall left Elland Road with a 4-3 win.
Christiansen’s side shot themselves in the foot when Liam Cooper was given a straight red card on 37 minutes, after Aiden O’Brien had fired the visitors into a 1-0 lead.
Despite the 10 men, Leeds were minutes away from a huge victory as a second-half double from Pierre-Michel Lasogga and another from Kemar Roofe had the Whites 3-2 ahead.
But two goals in the last three minutes from Tom Elliot and Jed Wallace scuppered United’s comeback and Christiansen’s troops are now 10th in the Championship, three points adrift of the top six.
It was Leeds’ sixth red card this season, and third this year already after Samu Saiz – banned for four more games for spitting – and Eunan O’Kane also got sent off.
And the message from a clearly frustrated Christiansen afterwards was clear.
He told LUTV: “We cannot afford to lose our possibilities to do something good by getting red cards. It must stop now, but we need to continue.”
