Vurnon Anita recently became Leeds United’s latest signing, but did not feature in the weekend win.

Thomas Christiansen has told BBC Radio Leeds that Vurnon Anita simply was not ready to feature in Leeds’ pre-season friendly win over Guiseley, but could well play a part in their next game.

Anita recently became the Whites’ latest signing, with the club confirming on their official website that the former Newcastle man has signed a three-year deal at Elland Road following his release from St James’ Park.

But despite travelling with the squad for the friendly with Guiseley, the 28-year-old did not take any part in the game as Christiansen’s men ran out 5-1 winners.

And after the game, the Whites boss shed some light on Anita’s absence, adding that he could appear for the club for the first time when they take on North Ferriby on Wednesday.

“It was same as what we did with Pontus when he came back after only one session of training. It’s not enough, he’s not ready, the muscles aren’t ready, and this is the same situation for Anita. He’s come back from a long vacation, of course, he has done his homework during these days but it’s not enough to compete in a game where everyone goes strong,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“Perhaps,” he responded, when asked whether Anita may feature in the next friendly.

Though Leeds should be running out comfortable winners against their non-league opposition, there will still be plenty of intrigue surrounding the game if Anita does indeed take part.

Given that his versatility has left many fans debating what position he will be predominantly deployed in, the contest may provide just the slightest hint of where Christiansen plans to use the Netherlands international during the coming season.
