Leeds United won against Hull City in the Championship this afternoon.

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has explained his decision to take off Kalvin Phillips at half time against Hull City, as quoted by Leeds Live.

Phillips started for Leeds in the Championship game against Hull at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old central midfielder was taken off at half time, with fellow midfielder Eunan O’Kane, 27, coming on in his place.

Leeds head coach Christiansen has explained his decision bring Phillips off and bring on O’Kane.

“Well, both, both,” Christiansen said when asked if the change was enforced or tactical, as quoted by Leeds Live.

“We wanted to have more the possession of the ball, to control the situation which I believe we did more in the second half.

“But when he came in he helped the team a lot, got the pace in the game so that was a good sign.”

Pablo Hernandez’s goal in the 29th minute proved to be the only goal of the match at Elland Road, as Leeds won 1-0.

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, hosts Leeds had 45% of the possession, took five shots of which three were on target, and earned two corners, according to BBC Sport.

The win against Hull means that Leeds are fifth in the Championship table at the moment with 39 points from 23 matches.
