Huddersfield Town are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United’s Robert Green in the summer transfer window.
It has been reported that the Premier League club are considering a move for the former West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper.
Green was the first-choice goalkeeper at Leeds last season, having joined the club in the summer of 2016 when Garry Monk – now the manager of Championship rivals Middlesbrough – was in charge at Elland Road, but the 37-year-old is behind summer signing Felix Wiedwald in the pecking order at the moment.
It would make sense for the Englishman to leave Leeds for Huddersfield in the summer transfer window.
True, the former Norwich City goalkeeper would still have to fight for his place, but at least he would be playing for a Premier League club.
Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen seems to have suggested that Green will leave Elland Road before the close of the summer transfer window.
When asked about Huddersfield’s interest in Green, Christiansen told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “After the game, I am going to talk about Rob. I will talk about him after.”
Christiansen’s comments suggest that Huddersfield are interested, and that Green could indeed leave Leeds.
If that were not the case, then the Leeds head coach would have been forceful in his reply and would have been direct.
Instead, Christiansen wants to wait until this weekend’s Championship game against Nottingham Forest before giving a definitive answer.
This indicates that Green could leave Leeds before the summer transfer window ends next season, and one should not blame him if he chooses to play second-fiddle at a Premier League club instead of being a back-up at a Championship team.
