Samu Saiz will miss Leeds United’s next six games.
Thomas Christiansen has told a Leeds United press conference, streamed by The Yorkshire Evening Post, that Samu Saiz is “very sad” over his suspension and claims that the Spanish star has vowed never to repeat the incident.
Leeds will be without Saiz for six Championship games after the 26-year-old accepted a charge of spitting at an opponent in the shock FA Cup defeat at Newport last week.
It’s a huge blow for Christiansen’s side based on how influential the playmaker has been since his £3.1 million switch from Huesca last summer.
The former Real Madrid youth has five goals and five assists in 20 Championship starts and United must learn to cope without him over the coming weeks.
The Whites beat Hull City and Burton Albion without him over the Christmas period, however, and the Leeds boss says that’s a “good sign” over surviving without him.
“He’s very sad, and has apologised. That will never happen again. But now we have to focus on the players available,” he told a press conference via The Yorkshire Evening Post.
“We have had some games without him where he have won, which is a good sign. But to lose such an important player is an obstacle.”
