Leeds United beat Port Vale 4-1 on Wednesday, but the Championship side had to work for it.
Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has suggested to TV Yorkshire that he was not pleased with his side’s first-half display in Wednesday’s win over Port Vale.
Christiansen’s side moved into the second round of the League Cup with a rousing 4-1 win over the League Two side at Elland Road last night.
But it was not as easy as the scoreline would suggest, particularly in first half as Michael Tonge cancelled out Samu Saiz’s opener to leave the match delicately poised at the break.
However, Leeds re-emerged from dressing room somewhat reinvigorated and another two from Saiz, who marked his United debut with a hat-trick, helped the hosts into a 3-1 lead, before another new signing in Caleb Ekuban added gloss to the scoreline late on.
And Christiansen has revealed that he demanded a big improvement on what he feels was a modest first-half showing in Yorkshire.
He told TV Yorkshire: “In the second half everybody took one step forward. Perhaps during half-time, [the message] was to do more.
“It was not enough what we did. With that performance [in the first half] we wouldn’t have won.”
Christiansen and co now gear up for the visit of Preston North End this weekend as the Whites look to maintain their winning start to the Championship season, after beating Bolton Wanderers 3-2 at the Macron Stadium on Sunday.
