Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson will play for Sweden at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia next summer.
Jansson is one of the best and most important players in the current Leeds team and is very popular among the fans.
The central defender will play at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia next summer, as his national side Sweden successfully negotiated the playoffs during the international break.
The 26-year-old centre-back has struggled to play well in recent weeks and does not seem to be guaranteed a place in the Leeds starting lineup at the moment.
Leeds head coach Christiansen has suggested that the former Malmo FF and Torino star needs to prove his worth to Sweden by succeeding for the Whites.
“I think first of all for Pontus it is great news and we all said congratulations to him that he had the possibility to participate,” Christiansen told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Jansson.
“But he also needs to prove in this team that he has a place in the squad for the national team. I hope and expect a good reaction for him.”
Jansson’s form may not be great at the moment, but there is no doubt that the Sweden international is a brilliant defender who will get back to his best soon.
Leeds will take on Middlesbrough at Elland Road in the Championship this weekend.
