Leeds United lost their four-match winning streak this afternoon.
Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has revealed to LUTV that his decision to introduce Mateusz Klich before striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City was because he intended to settle for a point.
The Whites’ four-match winning streak ended as Jacques Maghoma’s 83rd-minute winner was enough to give Leeds their first defeat since losing to Wolves on November 22.
Christiansen puzzled United fans on 69 minutes by putting on a defensive player in Klich instead of Lasogga, who has five Championship goals this season.
But the Leeds boss reveals a conversation he had with his assistant Julio Banuelos prior to introducing the Polish midfielder, in which they decided to settle for a point.
He told LUTV: “It’s always a disappointment not to take the three points.
“There was a situation with my assistant coach before the last change and I said to him ‘perhaps one point is not a bad result’ and then we conceded and had to make another decision.”
Lasogga came on within a minute of Leeds falling behind and, on reflection, Christiansen might admit that he should’ve used him earlier.
Kemar Roofe, who started up front ahead of the German hitman, wasn’t doing much and only managed 30 touches in 90 minutes.
