Thomas Christiansen asked how seriously Leeds will be take Burnley cup tie

Leeds United face Burnley in the third round of the League Cup while they remain top of the Championship.

Thomas Christiansen has told LUTV that Leeds will be taking their cup clash with Burnley on Tuesday seriously even with the Whites making a brilliant start to the new Championship season.

Leeds go into the clash at Turf Moor top of the second tier, having won five of their opening eight games and with goal difference keeping them above both Wolves and Cardiff who boast exactly the same record.

The Whites however, go into the game with Burnley after experiencing defeat for the first time this season in their most recent game, with Millwall winning 1-0 at The Den on Saturday.

But while some managers may want to focus their attention on their next league game to try and perhaps give them the best chance of getting back on track, Christiansen insisted that the game against the Clarets is his main priority.

“All the games should be taken seriously, there’s no small games,” he said, as reported by LUTV when asked whether Leeds would be taking the game seriously.

“Of course, there are some priorities but in this case, I want to pass through to the next round, trying to do our best, so this will be the intention for tomorrow.”

As Christiansen has hinted at, the league remains the priority, but he may perhaps feel that a win over Burnley would give them the best chance of bouncing back when they return to Championship action this weekend.

Beating the Clarets would surely eliminate any negativity that crept in after the defeat to Millwall, especially given how well Sean Dyche’s men have started this term, and would give Leeds the perfect boost heading into the weekend.
