Leeds United goalkeeper Andy Lonergan helped Thomas Christiansen’s side overcome Burnley in the Carabao Cup last night.

Lonergan was selected to start for Leeds in the Carabao Cup tie against Burnley, and he turned out to be the hero on debut.
The former Preston North End man not only pulled off some great saves in normal time, but helped Leeds win the penalty shoot-out.
And Christiansen says that Lonergan’s performance showed how strong his options in goal are.

“I have a good goalkeeper, he has proved that,” Christiansen said. “I was anxious to see him in action. He has shown very good attitude in training, and my expectation of him was fulfilled with his actions today.”
Lonergan has played a reserve role for Leeds so far, but his performance last night will have given Christiansen some food for thought.
It seems likely that Felix Wiedwald will keep his place in goal for now, but Lonergan has put some pressure on the German stopper.

Leeds scored their goals against Burnley through Hadi Sacko and Pablo Hernandez, as they caused an upset.
Leeds are scheduled to play again at the weekend, when they take on Ipswich Town back in Championship action.
