Man City fans have reacted positively after a 90min report claimed that the Citizens are ready to offer a new contract to first-team star Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus has been at the Etihad since 2017 when he signed from Palmeiras.

Gabriel Jesus thriving at City

He had to play second fiddle to Sergio Aguero for several years but he’s been a regular in the Premier League this season, often playing in a new role out wide.

The 24-year-old has only scored two goals in the league but he’s been a key member of the side, as his tally of seven assists suggests.

He was impressive during City’s successful Champions League Group A campaign, too, scoring three times and notching an assist from just four appearances.

Jesus’ current deal is set to expire at the end of next season.

However, 90min‘s Graeme Bailey reported on Friday morning that City are now ready to open negotiations with the Brazilian international and his representatives, with a view to tieing him down to a new, improved, long-term contract.

Man City fans urge club to seal deal

The versatility and willingness to adapt Jesus has shown so far this season has been impressive and while his stats may not be as strong as other Premier League attackers, he’s been very influential.

Despite being top of the league, City don’t have an embarrassment of riches in the final third right now, particularly with Ferran Torres linked with a move away.

Therefore, it makes sense to try to tie Jesus down.

It seems that many City fans agree, as when the report emerged, plenty urged the club to push hard to get the extension done.
