Former Celtic star Mark Wilson has told Sky Sports that he’d love to see Eddie Howe get appointed this week, before the Scottish Cup clash with Rangers later this month.
The Scottish Sun reported on Monday that Celtic are poised to name Howe as Neil Lennon’s long-term successor this week.
But the report added that the Hoops – who are 20 points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table – may have to wait until the summer before the 43-year-old physically arrives.
Celtic have an Old Firm derby against Rangers in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup in a couple of weeks.
And Wilson has said that it would be better if Howe were to come on board immediately, particularly before meeting Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox.
He said: “It looks as if Eddie Howe is interested in the Celtic job but might not take it until the summer. I’m of the opinion I’d like to see Eddie in Glasgow now – this week. You want to get him in before the Scottish Cup tie against Rangers to give him the best opportunity to assess the squad.”
Unfortunately for Wilson and Celtic, it doesn’t seem very likely that Howe will be at the club by the time the Rangers game comes along.
But if he is officially appointed by then, rest assured that the former Bournemouth coach will have a keen eye on the game.
