Southampton defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia wants to join Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, but Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are a major problem for the Reds.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs on Twitter, both Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in signing Romeo Lavia from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

Romeo Lavia stance amid Liverpool and Chelsea interest

The reporter has claimed that Lavia is keen on a move to Liverpool.

However, the Merseyside club have a major problem in their quest to bring the Belgium international defensive midfield to Anfield.

According to Jacobs, Southampton believe that a deal with Chelsea is quite close.

So, Liverpool will have to pay over £55 million to get a deal done for Lavia.

Chelsea are clearly ahead of Liverpool in the race for Lavia, and now the Reds will have to step up their pursuit for the 19-year-old..

According to 90min, Chelsea have already beaten Liverpool to the signing of Ecuador international midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Chelsea are clearly willing to splash the cash now and sign the players they are determined to bring to Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool have been quite cautious in the transfer market under FSG, but perhaps they need to start making big bids now.

Southampton will clearly sell Lavia to the highest bidder.

After all, the more money they get for the 19-year-old, the happier they will be.

Yes, Lavia wants to join Liverpool in the summer transfer window, but if Chelsea are willing to pay more than the Reds, then it will show the Belgian that the Blues want him more than the Merseyside club.

Lavia has made 29 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career, scoring one goal in the process.
