The summer’s five big transfer sagas: How will they end?

A view on the deals that have dragged on this summer involving Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Spurs, Liverpool and West Ham.

It seems every summer that rolls around brings with it another transfer saga to embroil all of football. Beckham to Real Madrid? Rooney to leave? Fabregas to Barcelona?

There is always one but this season there are many and here are five that are currently ongoing – With my prediction for how they might end.

Robin Van Persie – Arsenal to Manchester United or Manchester City or Juventus

This has been the big one this season hasn’t it? Without doubt this rollercoaster was always expected as last season drew to a close with no progression on the PFA Player of the Year’s current deal and it wasn’t long before the Dutch marksman announced his desire to leave.

Arsenal have earned a reputation for losing their best players too easily. Manchester City were one team to benefit from this supposed player fickleness as Clichy, Toure and Nasri made the switch to Eastland’s but it appears RVP will not follow them.

It is believed he respects the tradition and prestige of United and Juve and those are his preferred options. My heart wants him to stay in the Premiership but I think he might just fancy a stab at Serie A.

Mathieu Debuchy – Lille to Newcastle

This one started back in the midst of Euro 2012 and still, today, it appears a deal is no closer. Lille are scuppering the deal at the moment as it appears clear Debuchy wants the move, Newcastle need to figure out an asking price that suits Lille, who also need a suitable replacement. The longer the deal drags on the likelier it is another club will swoop in for the French international leaving Newcastle with egg on their face. I still believe we will see Debuchy at St James next season.

Emmanuel Adebayor – Manchester City to Spurs

This one seemed a mere formality at the end of the season after the Togolese had a great season on loan at White Hart Lane. Dot some I’s and cross some T’s? However Adebayor’s wage demands are reportedly incredible and Daniel Levy doesn’t like being held to ransom. This deal looks less and less likely every day. I think Spurs may move on to a more affordable target.

Andy Carroll – Liverpool to unknown

He was linked with Milan first now he’s being linked with West Ham. You have to feel sorry for Andy Carroll, whose name has been thrown around the press by Liverpool like some sort of fruit stall seller. ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL STRIKER! NOT WANTED! AVAILABLE ON LOAN OR FOR A LOT OF MILLIONS! At the moment nobody can agree on whether to sell him, loan him or keep him and that’s just not fair, it is madness. Likelihood is he will eventually leave but probably not before the start of the season, likely destination, a hometown return at Newcastle.

Luka Modric – Spurs to Real Madrid

Last summer it was Chelsea this summer it’s Real who are after the gifted Croatian. At an astonishing £36million he would be an incredible buy from Jose Mourinho and Spurs could do a lot worse. This one will be done as soon as Spurs can figure out whom to spend all that money on. A likely replacement is Joao Moutinho from Porto.

What do you think on these transfer sagas and any more currently occurring in the world of football?
