Nothing can go right for the Tottenham forward this season.

Tottenham Hotspur are in a good moment right now as they bid to win one of the FA Cup or Champions League and earn their first trophy in a decade.

But for one of their players, 2017/18 is turning into a total disaster.

That unfortunate star is Vincent Janssen.

The Dutch striker had a disappointing debut season at Spurs and has had setback after setback since.

Strike 1 Janssen was publicly snubbed by Tottenham when they signed Fernando Llorente to replace him on deadline day.

Strike 2 Spurs then omitted him from their Champions League squad – and then sent him packing to Turkey on a season long loan.

Strike 3 Janssen’s World Cup hopes went up in smoke as Holland failed to even make the play-offs and missed out on qualification.

Strike 4 Poor form at Fenerbahce saw him overshadowed by ageing former Spurs flop Roberto Soldado. He has scored just three goals this season, Soldado five.

Strike 5 Injury has meant his 2018 has not got started. Janssen hasn’t played a game since December 8.

And now…

Janssen’s prospects are not looking up.

His manager has admitted there is still no date on his potential return. Fenerbahce manager Louis Laros told Sondakika that there is ‘no point’ projecting his comeback as he cannot tell when it may be.

The only positive

The only reason for Janssen to be optimistic is that his replacement Fernando Llorente has perhaps done even worse than he did at Tottenham.

It’s still unlikely he would be invited to resume his old spot if Llorente is axed, but for now Janssen can retain a little hope if he can get fit and somehow end this season on a high in Turkey.

The most likely option is that he is sold this summer back to the Eredivisie, and after a nightmare 12 months, going back to where he was last successful might be his best option.
