The Leeds United striker has not yet replicated his best form.

With Leeds United striker Chris Wood expected to miss the weekend clash with Brentford, it is the perfect chance for summer signing Marcus Antonsson to prove he deserves more minutes.

The Swedish forward has recovered from a minor setback of his own and will be available for Saturday’s clash, and with Malik Wilks the only likely alternative (with Kemar Roofe excelling in a number 10 role) Antonsson should start.

It is a small window of opportunity for the summer signing yet it is one he needs to take to ensure he earns the faith of Leeds boss Garry Monk on a more regular basis.

Antonsson arrived at Elland Road with a big reputation after scoring 10 goals in 12 league matches for Kalmar last season and ending his time there with 25 in 47 games.

That form had Leeds fans dreaming of a new superstar striker, but it is Wood who has kicked on under Monk while Antonsson has had to make do with scraps despite endearing himself to the supporters with his effort.

So far Antonsson has scored three goals in 16 games for Leeds. However his only league goal to date came all the way back in August and that has to change sooner rather than later.

With Wood out, Antonsson must use the opportunity to go in all guns blazing, because Leeds will ultimately need both their experienced front men to perform if they are to secure promotion back to the top flight come May.
