Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Brendan Rodgers claimed Antonio Conte hasn’t done much differently to Nuno Espirito Santo.
What’s the story?
Well, ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League meeting with Leicester tomorrow, Rodgers has upset the Spurs fans.
As quoted by the BBC, the 48-year-old said: “Antonio come in and given them a stable base, they’re playing a similar style as they were under Nuno. The players know the system and where they’re playing. They’re a very good team with very good players.”
Now, he hasn’t exactly said anything with malice, although you can understand why the Tottenham supporters are annoyed.
While there’s still plenty of work to be done, there has definitely been progress under Conte, helped by a tweak to the style of play.
Yes, Spurs have a solid base under the Italian and often choose to counter-attack opponents, but the north Londoners can also create chances in a more possession-based style now as well.
Simply put, there are more strings to Tottenham’s bow.
One fan found a positive from the Leicester man’s comments, saying that it at least shows he hasn’t done much tactical analysis ahead of the game.
Is Tottenham vs Leicester an audition for Brendan Rodgers?
Back in the summer, 90min revealed that Daniel Levy was desperate to hire Rodgers as a replacement for José Mourinho.
Clearly, the Northern Irishman is admired by Spurs, so could tomorrow’s game be an audition for the ex-Liverpool boss?
Of course, you will argue that Conte has only just arrived in N17.
However, Football London believe there’s a chance the Italian could quit in February if he is not backed with signings.
If that nightmarish scenario happens, then we wouldn’t be surprised to see Levy make another attempt to hire Rodgers.
Therefore, in what has been an underwhelming season for Leicester so far, Levy may be casting a close eye on how Rodgers sets up.
