Arsenal fans have hit back at Serge Aurier claiming that he would never sign for the club because he has ‘too much respect’ for Tottenham, as he wrote on Instagram.

The 28-year-old joined Villarreal on a free-transfer on Monday – linking up with an ex-Arsenal boss in Unai Emery, after having his contract ripped up at Spurs.

When he left Spurs on a free-transfer on deadline day, there was talk of him possibly moving across North London, but that was dismissed by the player on Instagram.

Following Aurier’s comments, Arsenal fans were quick to remind the player that he supported the club as a young boy.

Several of them, posted pictures of him, years before joining Spurs, in an Arsenal shirt.

Plus, they have made it clear that they wouldn’t have wanted to sign him in the first place, anyway.

It perhaps doesn’t look good on Aurier, when he speaks about not signing for the ‘enemy’, yet not so long ago he was donning their colours.

Of course, he wasn’t playing for them, nor was he a Tottenham player, at the time.

But it’s still something that is going to be brought up by the Arsenal faithful, and they have done just that.

Nonetheless, Arsenal have been enjoying, and are looking forward to, watching Takehiro Tomiyasu in action, because he was the one they brought in on deadline day.

Here is a selection of Arsenal fans reacting to the transfer claim from Aurier:
