Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that his Chelsea side won’t celebrate Liverpool or Manchester City dropping points on Saturday, as he told Football London.

The Chelsea boss stated ‘what goes around, comes around’ after his Chelsea team recorded a 3-0 win against Newcastle at the same time Liverpool blew a 2-0 lead against Brighton.

Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s men didn’t make a complete meal of their difficult afternoon on Merseyside, the same can’t be said for their other title rivals in Manchester.

No, not Man United, but the current champions themselves, who lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace at the Etihad and also had Aymeric Laporte sent off.

Despite everything going for Chelsea yesterday, Tuchel stated that it’s ‘not true’ that his side are ‘happier’ because of those other results.

“There will never be a moment where we celebrate results on the other pitches,” said Tuchel.

“First of all, it’s far too early. And second of all, we want to focus on ourselves because what goes around comes around. We don’t do this.

“There is a long way to go and if you think we’re even happier now [because of other results], this is not true.”

After ten Premier League games, Chelsea are sitting top of the tree and they will be hoping to stay there with a busy festive period around the corner.

After the last international break of 2021 in November – one of the toughest, and perhaps season-defining – periods of the campaign will take place.

Dropping points during this period could prove to be very costly and see a team go from title challengers to out of the race altogether.

There is also the small matter of the Africa Cup of Nations in January, which could also have huge bearings on the title race because someone like Liverpool might just lose both Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.
