Speaking to The Athletic, Jamie Redknapp has been discussing the idea of Liverpool buying Jude Bellingham.

The Reds seem to have been linked with Bellingham for an eternity now, and these rumours have only ramped up during the World Cup.

As you may imagine, Redknapp is very keen to see the teenage sensation end up at Anfield, and he’s urged his former club to get this deal done.

Redknapp is of the opinion that there is no risk attached to signing Bellingham, stating that this transfer would not be a gamble.

Bellingham not a gamble

Redknapp spoke about the young midfielder.

“Most players are a gamble, but this isn’t a gamble. You aren’t gambling when you buy Jude Bellingham. You’re buying the future,” Redknapp says.

“If Liverpool can get him, they’d be buying gold. He’s never going to go out of fashion. When you look at him standing there with that armband on for Dortmund, you just think, ‘He’s ready-made’.”

Carried away

Bellingham looks like a talent, but saying that there is no risk attached to this transfer is just lazy.

Yes, he’s shining at the World Cup, but let’s be honest, Senegal, USA, Iran and Wales aren’t exactly the world’s best teams are they?

His Bundesliga performances have also been impressive to say the least, but wouldn’t everyone have said the same about Jadon Sancho 18 months ago? Or Timo Werner two years ago?

Signing Bellingham does sound like a good idea. After all, he could be the Reds’ starting midfielder for the next decade, but to say that this transfer has no risk attached is to ignore the fact that so many players have struggled to adapt when arriving from Germany despite looking like the finished product in the Bundesliga.

This could be a great signing, but as ever, there is an element of risk attached.
